Anabolism
The anabolism is the synthesis of complex organic molecules from other simpler molecules with the energy provided by the phosphate bonds of the ATP and reducing power. The necessary ATP can come from catabolism, photosynthesis or chemosynthesis.
Two types of anabolism are distinguished:
- Autotrophic anabolism: set of reactions by which simple organic molecules are synthesized from inorganic matter such as CO2, H2O, and NH3. Autotrophic cells perform:
- Photosynthesis: if you use the energy of sunlight.
- Chemosynthesis: if you use energy from other chemical reactions.
- Heterotrophic anabolism: complex organic molecules are synthesized from other simpler organic molecules. They use the energy obtained in catabolism.
Although we have now started to look at anabolism, it would be nice to go over the most important concepts of metabolism.
