2.3.1. Trioses

Trioses

They are carbohydrates formed by a chain of three carbon atoms. There are two trioses:

  • Glyceraldehyde, an aldotriose that has an aldehyde group.

Gliceraldehído

  • Dihydroxyacetone, a ketotriose that has a ketone group .

Dihidroxiacetona

The empirical formula for the two molecules is C3H6O3They are abundant inside the cell, as they are intermediate products of glucose breakdown.
