Cytokinesis

The cytokinesis is the division of the cytoplasm, where the organelles are divided between the two new daughter cells. It occurs at the end of telophase, following karyokinesis.

In animal cells, the cytoplasm divides by constricting the cell in the central part.

Cytokinesis in plant cells

In plant cells, the cellulose wall does not allow constriction to occur. The division of the cytoplasm is produced by the formation of the fragmoplast, a separating septum between the two daughter cells. The fragmoplast is formed from vesicles from the Golgi apparatus.
