9.3. Environmental impacts

Environmental impacts of human activities

Alterations to ecosystems caused by human activities are known as environmental impact.

The environmental impacts include:

  • Positive environmental impacts. The repopulation of a degraded space, for example, would have a positive impact on the ecosystem.
  • Negative environmental impacts. They are those that are detrimental to the environment. In the next sections we will see some of the main environmental impacts:

Depending on the extension of the territory to which they affect, the environmental impacts can be:

  • Local.
  • Regionals.
  • Global.

To avoid negative environmental impacts, it is necessary that before carrying out any type of public works or carrying out any other project, an environmental impact assessment is carried out that determines how that project affects the environment and the necessary measures to minimize these damages.
