The reproductive function allows the survival and perpetuation of the species. Through reproduction, an organism originates a cell or a group of cells that, after a process of development, will give rise to a new organism.
All living beings fulfill the three vital functions: nutrition, relationship and reproduction. Surely you have thought that individuals who do not have children, either because they are too young or for any other reason, could not be considered living beings because they do not perform the three vital functions. Of course, a 1st ESO student is a living being even if, at the moment, he does not reproduce, because he will in the future or other members of his species will. Logically, if no member of the species reproduced, the species would eventually become extinct.
